Osteotomy process

There is more than one medical procedure that can be used to get rid of the bone thorn. One of the treatment methods is to take a greater amount of rest, especially if the bone thorn results from severe stress, and it is possible to resort to exercise, including stretching and stretching, but when doctors do not find improvement after a period of about 6 months of treatment, the heel fork operation is performed.

The process of removing the bone thorn is one of the surgeries that are performed on the foot, which works to improve the condition of the injured person and remove the pain resulting from the bone thorn, and the bone thorn is one of the types of inflammation that usually affects the heel of the foot as a result of plantar fasciitis and results in pain, especially when waking up.

The operation of the bone fork in the heel can be done through surgical intervention, that is, open surgeries, and sometimes doctors prefer to do it using the endoscope because it is safer and reduces the severity of complications, and the patient can feel comfortable after the operation for a short period.

Why is the bone fork operation performed?

There are a number of people who are likely to undergo the operation of the bone thorn for them, especially those who suffer from severe pain when walking, which affects the quality of their life, or when the patient continues for several months on other types of treatment and does not find the appropriate result, and therefore the attending physician can begin to prepare him for surgery.

Bone thorn surgery procedures

Bone fork operations can be divided into two types, and each of them is determined according to the patient’s condition and the diagnosis of the treating doctor, which are as follows:

  • Conventional surgery: An open surgery is performed on the patient’s soles of the foot, through which the plantar fascia is released, which may affect the person and increase the feeling of pain as a result of inflammation.
  • Endoscopy: Endoscopy can be used to perform the bone fork operation due to the advantages it offers to the patient, including reducing the severity of complications and working on a faster recovery.

Recovery steps after bone fork surgery

Some steps are being taken to improve the patient’s condition and make him feel better than before, and enable the patient to do the following:

  • In the case of open surgery, it is important to wear special shoes for people with thorns for a period of 14 days, and they can be released after this period and return to normal shoes.
  • You must follow up with the doctor during the recovery period, which in the case of normal operations is 6 to 8 weeks.
  • In the case of bone fork arthroscopy, the patient can only take a break and work on wearing medical shoes.
  • The patient can start doing exercises that allow him to feel more comfortable and give him more ability to walk better.
  • The patient can use painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs prescribed by the doctor to reduce the risk of infection.
